    Bio A native of the Bay Area, Dr. Raja Narayan attended James Logan High School in Union City before going to Berkeley to obtain his BS in Chemical Biology, Yale for his MPH in Biostatistics, and the University of California Irvine for his MD. Dr. Narayan joined the Stanford General Surgery residency program in 2015.

    Before joining Stanford, Dr. Narayan developed a library of physiology and clinical education videos for the popular online learning platform, Khan Academy, where his videos have been viewed over 20 million times in all 7 continents. His work in education technology earned him the New England Journal of Medicine Gold Scholar award. While a graduate student at Yale, Dr. Narayan led a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, pathologists, and surgeons to design, construct, test, and patent a device to preserve intestinal tissue for small bowel transplantation and drug testing. This work earned him grants from the Yale Center for Engineering, Innovation, and Design as well as the Physicians of Tomorrow and Excellence in Medicine awards from the American Medical Association. As a medical student, Dr. Narayan was elected to the ?lpha Omega ?lpha Honor Society where he served as President of the Zeta chapter in 2014 and is serving as Research Chair of the Stanford chapter from 2019-2022.

    Between 2017-2019, Dr. Narayan was a research fellow with the Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery service at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center studying targets for pancreatic cancer vaccines, genomic markers of liver tumor biology, and regional differences in biliary tree cancer arising in patients from around the world. Since returning to Stanford in June 2019, Dr. Narayan now leads a team studying the use of artificial intelligence to define liver histopathology to predict clinical outcomes. This work has received institutional as well as national funding and acclaim including the Young Investigator Award from the American Transplant Congress and the Postgraduate Fellowship Award from the ?lpha Omega ?lpha Honor Society.

    After completion of his residency training, Dr. Narayan will pursue fellowship training in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Harvard at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women?s Hospital, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

    Bio Dr. Nassar is board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care in both the USA and Canada. Dr. Nassar has five years of clinical experience in tertiary care referral academic health centers in Canada prior to joining Stanford University in surgery, trauma, and critical care. His clinical interests are emergency and elective surgery in addition to trauma and critical care medicine. He is also a skilled endoscopist performing both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. His research interests are varied and include developing assessment tools for trainees and burnout among physicians and other healthcare professionals. In addition, he is especially interested in training trainees in simulation-based medical education with a focus on perioperative inter-professional collaboration and patient safety. He is a true clinician-educator and is a certified simulation educator as well as an ATLS course director. Dr. Nassar has also earned an MSc degree in Health Science Education from McMaster University, Canada.

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Surgery - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

    Bio Dr. Nazerali specializes in complex reconstruction, microsurgery, and aesthetic and cosmetic surgery. He excels at breast reconstruction using free autologous tissue and performs advanced techniques such as the minimally invasive superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap, as well as the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap procedure. In addition to autologous reconstruction, Dr. Nazerali utilizes the latest techniques in implant-based breast reconstruction. His techniques and results have made him a leading instructor and lecturer at national and international institutions, societies and conferences.

    In addition to breast reconstruction, Dr. Nazerali performs both aesthetic as well as whole body reconstructive procedures. He has a busy aesthetic practice focusing on breast augmentation, face and body rejuvenation as well as body contouring. In his reconstructive practice, he specializes in abdominal wall reconstruction as well as post-trauma tissue transfers. For every patient in his care, his goal is to optimize restoration of both form and function.

    To help advance the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Nazerali conducts research into outcomes of breast reconstruction, augmentation, and reduction. Dr. Nazerali has published widely: well over 100 journal articles and conference proceedings. Topics include breast reconstruction after radiation; advances in surgical technique; and, the use of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality systems in plastic surgery practice and education. His work has appeared in Annals of Plastic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgery, the European Journal of Plastic Surgery, the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, and elsewhere.

    Dr. Nazerali focuses not only on improving his patient?s lives but also our ability to deliver care as an institution. He is on the Medical Executive Council at Stanford Healthcare, serves as a committee member in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons as well as the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. In his spare time, he volunteers his time to provide reconstructive surgical services to adults and children in need worldwide.

    Bio Dr. Dung H Nguyen is currently the Director of Breast Reconstruction at the Stanford Women?s Cancer Center and the Director of Adult Plastics Clinic at Stanford Healthcare. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and highest academic honor and distinction from U.C. Davis. She earned a Pharm.D degree from U.C.S.F. School of Pharmacy and a MD degree from U.C.S.D. She then did a residency in general surgery and a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center. She further completed a fellowship in microsurgery from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, one of the largest reconstructive surgery centers in the world. She was recruited to Stanford from Cedar Sinai Medical Center in 2012, and is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University.

    Dr. Nguyen specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, surgical treatment of lymphedema including vascularized lymph node transfer and lymphaticovenous anastomosis, and complex tissue reconstruction utilizing microsurgery and supermicrosurgery. She also has interest in cosmetic surgery, including facial rejuvenation and body contouring procedures.

    In addition to her clinical commitment, Dr. Nguyen has basic science and clinical research interests in lymphedema and breast reconstruction. She has published articles in peer review journals, presented at national and international professional meetings and has authored book chapters in various plastic surgery textbooks. She also enjoys volunteering on overseas medical missions and participating in medical charity activities.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Interleukin-12 is a Th1 cytokine. It is important in the cell mediated immune response. We are investigating its role as an anti-tumor cytokine to augment the immune response against cancer. We are planning a human trial.
