Current Research and Scholarly Interests

My areas of interest involve exploring antibody function as it relates to transfusion medicine, blood safety, and emerging infectious diseases. This ranges from natural immune responses to the ABO blood group, antibody profiling anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and studying HEV seroprevalence in the local community. I am also interested in exploring statistical approaches to improve blood product availability and overall health care efficiency in a tertiary care system.

Research Interests
My research interest is focused on the improvement of clinical immunosuppression. I am involved in the evaluation of new immunosuppressive drugs, potentially more efficacious or less toxic. My ultimate goal is to achieve tolerance, a state that would obviate the need for any drugs. I am an investigator part of a multidisciplinary tolerance induction project using total lymphoid irradiation and donor hematopoietic stem cells infusion after living donor kidney transplantation.

My major research interests and activities over the next several years will focus on the development and evaluation of the objective measurement of physical activity in free-living populations using a variety of sensing devices and mobile phones for data collection and processing. Also, I will continue to direct the Stanford Heart Network with the major mission being to assist community-based CVD prevention/treatment programs implement more effective heart attack and stroke prevention programs.
